Day 1: Arrival in Dar es Salaam Tanzania
Upon arrival at the airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our wonderful team and transferred to your hotel in the city. Take the rest of the day to relax and familiarize yourself to the new environment. Today you can also try the local restaurants to taste the local foods such as ugali, nyama choma (grilled goat meat), among others. Karibu Tanzania
Day 2: Dar es Salaam City Tour/ Transfer to Mikumi National Park
Today you will have your first tour in Tanzania, a guided walk around the sunny Dar es Salaam city, visit Mwenge Woodcarvers Market, which sells artisanal wood carvings and sculptures, visit the Tanzania National Museum to learn more about the history and development of Tanzania, head to Coco Beach which is a great place to mingle with the locals, try the street food, enjoy live music, we will end the city tour with a cold drink and fresh seafood lunch
After lunch vacate Dar es Salaam city and transfer to Mikumi National Park, which is about 3-4 hours drive. Upon arrival, you’ll check into your safari lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: On Safari in Mikumi National Park
Today you will have a full day with both morning game drives and afternoon game drives in Mikumi National Park, a home to the legendary Big Five animals: lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and rhinos. You’ll likely spot some (if not all) of these iconic African creatures enjoying their morning drink at watering holes. Later on, go back to the lodge for lunch and refreshments.
In the afternoon we will follow the Mkata River and other waterways, to see plenty of animals up close, including hippos, Nile crocodiles, antelope, wildebeests, zebras, giraffes, and others. A little while after sunset, you’ll return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Transfer to Nyerere National Park
Today you will say bye to Mikumu National Park and transfer to Nyerere National Park which is about 5 hours drive. this park is filled with various habitats, ecosystems, waterways and the mighty Rufiji River, the largest river in the country and the park’s lifeline. Upon arrival you will check in your lodge and rest as you will be tired from the long drive.
Day 5: Boat Cruise in Rufiji River
Today you will board a boat for a full day Rufiji River safari, to observe the ecosystems around its riverine and various wildlife in their natural habitats, particularly aquatic animals like hippos and Nile crocodiles, over 400 bird species, you will end a morning cruise with a picnic lunch on the riverbanks of Rufiji River, followed by more wildlife viewing until the end of the day. And head back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: On Safari in Nyerere National Park
Today you will have a full day with both morning game drives and afternoon game drives in Nyerere National Park. The first is a morning safari that starts around 6 am, will likely take you to watering holes and rivers like the Rufiji as at this time, most of the animals, are active and just beginning their day, and predators returning after their hunt. Later on, return to the lodge for lunch.
later in the afternoon around 3 pm, go for a sunset game drive, at this time animals including the big cats like lions are making the most of the last few daylight hours so they are big chances that you can get closer to them. End the day with a spectacular African sunset over the plains and rivers and head back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Transfer to Dar es Salaam/ Depart Flight
Today you will enjoy the breakfast at the lodge, pack your bags and transfer to the airstrip. There, you’ll board a charter plane for your transfer back to Dar es Salaam, where you will catch your departure flight marking the end of 7 Days Tanzania Southern Circuit (Mikumi & Nyerere National Park) Safari.
